Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT

In line with the expert advice laid out by the Government in response to Coronavirus (COVID-19), and in particular, the specific Government instruction for all public to self-isolate, we have had to temporarily close the club to ensure our members' safety and well-being. Therefore:

WE KINDLY ASK ALL MEMBERS TO NOT VISIT THE CLUB UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE

These measures will most likely be in place for at least 3 months, but we will review decisions on a day-to-day basis, taking advice from the Government to assess the situation.

As a result, this month (March) there will be:

  • no 'Bill's Bits'
  • no 'What's Up Doc'.

In April, there will also be no speaker (we have already contacted Dr Steve Barrett and cancelled). However, you can see an online version of his talk in full here: The Great Moon Hoax. The slides can be viewed here: Slides.

The planned Star Camp has unfortunately been cancelled also, with camps all across the country following suit.

The talks will continue online, whereas 'What's Up Doc' and space news will go out as a daily news briefing with images. These will be emailed to members and posted on Facebook or on this website as appropriate. The speaker night will continue as a series of monthly lectures in video format with questions at the end.

Ask An Astronomer can be done via email - don't be shy!

That's all for now, any thoughts, questions or ideas, please let us now know.
